Hong Kong’s home workers were arrested for selling abortion drugs

Eleven domestic workers have been arrested in Hong Kong on suspicion of “child destruction” and illegal abortion, police said.

In her 30 and 40 decades, the women came together after they found one with a dead fetus in her owner’s house, then confirmed at least 28 weeks.

Police also found that there were abortion pills – which led them to 10 other women.

Five people have since been charged, while five are on bail and one has been detained for further investigation. If the most serious accusation, found guilty of destroying a child, they will have to be sentenced to life imprisonment.

In June, Paramedix was summoned to assist 39 -year -old home workers who had fallen into her owner’s house.

Paramedix was then found hidden in a laundry basket in her room, police said, who was not born alive.

When asked, the woman confessed to buying pills from a friend – another foreign domestic worker.

She was arrested in July. Police finally made several raids from July to August August, and during the period, eight more domestic workers were detained.

UN Long District Criminal Squad Inspector Lam Ho-Yin said it did not seem to be a criminal syndrome. Instead, preliminary findings showed “32 -year -old foreign domestic helpers … they brought them back from another country” and are accused of selling them.

It is not clear that every woman – whose citizens will not disclose the police – have been charged.

Abortion is legal in Hong Kong, but only in rigorous conditions – if pregnancy continues in a 24 -week period, there will be a risk of mother’s life or health or severe fetal disorders. For more than 24 weeks, abortion can be done only if the mother’s life is in danger.

People are found guilty of providing or using drugs for abortion that it may be time for seven years of prison.

On Friday, the police asked the owners to talk to the medical professionals if they were pregnant.

According to government statistics, about 368,000 foreign domestic workers of Hong Kong are organized. Most – some 55% – come from Philippines, while 42% are from Indonesia.

Everyone earns a government-fixed monthly minimum wage of HK $ 4,990 (US $ 636; £ 473).
