After decades of accepting the requests of Paper visitors only, the Ministry of Corrections in Minnesota plans to switch to a new electronic visit system in prisons on Monday.
"”We have heard loudly and clearly from families (about) challenges while providing information, sending it, knowing the situation, and communicating with our employees. For this reason we have finally developed this,” said Paul Shenil, a delegate at the Ministry of Corrections.
About 8,200 people are imprisoned in 11 prisons at the state level.
Since December, the Department of Association has been tested The new electronic system In Rush City and five other prisons. Reactions from the experimental program showed that the system is reduced to the application waiting times and advanced mail costs.
She Shenil said: “We heard from people that it was much easier to complete.
Due to the positive responses during the experimental stage of the program, the electronic application system will be available in English and Spanish in all the reform facilities of adults in the state.
Starting August 11, the administration will not accept paper requests for personal visits to Minnesota prisons. For families that cannot be accessed to technology or who cannot move in the new system, employees are available on (320) 358-0466.
"”We realize that there will be people who will need places of residence. In certain circumstances, we will never help someone complete the request if they do not have the ability or the ability to do so,” Shenil said.
The Department of Associations plans to provide the same system for the Wing Red juvenile prisoners later this year.
