The Capital Transport Authority lifted a ban on alcohol advertisements – as it dropped the public health activity in a desperate attempt for more revenues.

180 was approved last month, as it has retreated from the embargo in force since 2017.

This step has already drew the anger of public health workers who gathered outside the MTA headquarters on Wednesday to bomb the transportation agency before the scheduled board meeting.

“The promotion of alcohol is a truly curious decision with a power that oversees bridges, tunnels and shortcomings,” said Julia McCarthy, chief program official at the New York Health Corporation.

MTA hopes to generate $ 7 million and $ 10 million annually of ads – but McCarthy said that advertising on alcohol has a harmful effect on children and people who recover from drug use.

She said: “Alcohol ads encourage adolescents to start drinking early and with greater holy sanctity, and they also lead to a strong desire that can affect those who recover.”

Jano Lieber, Chairman and CEO of MTA, told reporters that there are still restrictions on alcohol ads, with offers from digital advertising boards during peak hours to move the student.

MTA ads can still display alcohol ads if they are “unnamed 500 feet from school, stadium, place or worship,” according to agency documents.

But the new rules allow alcohol ads in “major rail centers and stations next to the large places where alcohol is legally sold,” the documents said.

Advertisements that promote the “train coils” will also be allowed on Times Square and Grand Central trains.

“We have adopted two of the exclusions of common instinct designed in a narrow manner that make sure that the original purpose of the ban, which is still in effect, is achieved, which is the protection of school children from being exposed to them,” Leber said.

MTA decision -making is a transformation from 2017, when leaders at that time are called a “big step forward”.

Julia McCarthy, the program officials at the New York Health Corporation, said, Christopher Sadovsky

“These ads are sometimes present on buses where tens of thousands of people can see, including children,” said Era Greenberg’s board member, praising this step.

I have estimated MTA Alcohol ads are born only $ 2.5 million annually MTA Chairman Joe Lotta said the money will be held easily.

With the last Flip-Flop, McCarthy wondered whether there would be a return to tobacco advertisements, which have been banned since 1992.

“With MTA welcoming the alcohol industry, New York residents are now looking to question whether cigarette companies or Vaping will be the next,” McCarthy said.
