Employers recorded 7.4 million vacancies last month, a sign that the American labor market is still cooling.

The Ministry of Labor stated on Tuesday that job opportunities in June fell from 7.7 million in May and were about what the predictors expected.

JolTs and the Jolts Survey showed that the demobilization of workers did not change much in June. But the number of people who left their jobs – a sign of confidence in their horizons elsewhere – decreased last month to the lowest level since December. The recruitment also fell from May.

After posted on Bluesky, Daniel Zhao, economist in Glassdooor, wrote that the report “shows more soft characters with appointments and resignation are still slow prices. Not imminent, not amazing, more than him.”

The US labor market has lost momentum this year, partly due to the ongoing effects of 11 interest rates by federal inflation fighters in 2022 and 2023 and partly because President Donald Trump’s wars created the uncertainty that paralyzes employees who make employment decisions.

On Friday, the Ministry of Labor will put out unemployment and employment numbers for July. They are expected to show that the unemployment rate reaches 4.2 % is still low in July from 4.1 % in June. It is expected that companies, government agencies and non -profit organizations will add 115,000 jobs in July, a decrease from 147,000 in June, according to a survey by economists by FactSet.

The June employment numbers were apparently weaker than they appeared. Special salaries rose only 74,000 in June, and the lowest number since last October when hurricanes disrupted work sites. Government and local governments added approximately 64,000 educational jobs in June – which economists suspect that seasonal dodgers are at the end of the school year.

To date this year, the economy generates 130,000 jobs per month, a decrease from 168,000 in the past year and 400,000 a month from 2021 to 2023 during the recovery period of Covid-19s.

Employers are less likely to employ, but they also do not allow workers to leave either. Displacement operations are still lower than prenatal levels.
