Oscar Valdez faces Ricky Medina in a crucial return home on September 6 in Nogales, Mexico
Oscar Valdez will take a 10 -round light competition against Ricky Medina next month on September 6th at the Domo Binacional in his hometown, Nogales, Mexico.

Top Rank has not revealed which, if any, network that Valdez-Medina fights will be shown. Their seven -year contract with ESPN ended last month on July 26th. They must still be looking for a new broadcast deal.
The former Valdez two-part world champion (32-3, 24 ko) has not fought since last December when it was stopped in the sixth round by Super Feather WBO featherweight champion Emanuel Navarrete.
Champion Bob Arum says Valdez will seek his third world title. He does not mention which of the champions he will target at 130. He would be pointless for him to fight Navarrete again after the way he was dominated twice. Other promoters, Lamong Roach Jr., Eduardo ‘Sugar’ Nunez, and ‘Shaquie Foster, would also fight for him.
Essential proof for Valdez
“Oscar Valdez is a proud warrior, and this is a great opportunity for him to return home and prove that he still needs what is needed at 130 lbs,” said top rank chair Bob Arum. “Oscar has been with the highest site since it turned into a pro, and we’re in its corner as it tries to become a three-time world champion.”
Medina (26-7, 10 ko) has lost two out of his last three contests, and probably doesn’t even match this version of Valdez. However, with his youth, he may give Oscar a real test. We do not know what Valdez has left in the tank at this point in his 13 -year career. He has lost three out of his last five contests, beaten twice by Navarrte and once by Shakur Stevenson. Those were all unilateral issues.
Can Valdez repeat the glory of the past?
Valdez should consider moving back down to 126 and trying to re -engage the success it had in that weight class. That’s where he started his career and fought at the highest levels. It is not strong enough or skilled -to go with any of the champions at 130.
