 Pictures: Old school buildings remember the past of Minnesota

In every corner of Minnesota, there are good stories that are waiting to be listed from places that make our country wonderful and the people, in the words of Walt Witman, “contribute to a verse” every day. This is the topic of our series, “Wander & Wonder: Explore the unexpected places of Minnesota.”


The arrival of August to Minnesota means that attention begins towards the state exhibition, and the upcoming football season – and classrooms are resumed in hundreds of schools throughout the state.

In some societies, children have ended a long time ago, but old school buildings still exist, as local attractions and ties are held with the past.

The former Teien Central School was built in Kittson County in the far northwest of Minnesota in 1904 and held lessons until 1954. It later worked as a city hall. The original dome, with a school bell, is now on the ground in front of the building.

The former school building in Bijelow, north of the Iowa border in the southwest of Minnesota, includes many schools including the Faiith Christian High School, which was closed in 2002, and the WortHington Area Language Charter School.

In western Minnesota, NORCROSS School in NORCROSS returns to 1938. The Art Deco building was an ART DECO project to manage progress in federal works. The classroom was held here until the province is unified with the educational area of Hermann in the 1970s.
