Shakur Stevenson argues that Canelo has no answer to Terence Crawford’s genius
Shakur Stevenson believes Terence Crawford will be the same fighter at 168 as he was 154 and lower when he challenges Canelo Alvarez for his undisputed large middle weight gold on September 13th.
Stevenson does not believe that the two divisions jump will affect Crawford (41-0, 31 KOS) at all, and will dominate Canelo (63-2-2, 39 KOS) as he did to other fighters from the younger middleweight section down to light.
Crawford’s perfect style to tackle canelo
“Bud is the only one who can beat Canelo in 168. Canelo does not do well against Southpaws, and Bud style is perfect to exploit that. Look at how Canelo struggled with the movement of John Ryder – Bud’s at another level with that, ”Shakur Stevenson told Ring magazine channel.
You have to ignore what Terence did in those weight classes because none of those fighters were at an elite level, and they would all be over-made if they competed with a fighter like Canelo. The version of Errol Spence that beat Crawford in 2023 would not last more than two or three rounds against Alvarez. That is arguably Terence’s best career victory.
Crawford, 37, has been at another level than the opposition that he has fought in the four departments he has competed in as a pro during his 17 -year professional career. Boxing fans are still questioning whether the same fighter will be Bud in 168 as it was in the lower weight classes. He appeared to have reached his border when he moved up to 154 last year and scratched it with a narrow decision against Israil Madrimov.
Crawford may not be the only fighter who can beat Canelo in 168. We have not seen Alvarez fight against a young competitors crop at great middle weight. He has been putting these fighters on ignoring:
– Christian Milli
– Diego Pacheco
– Hamzah Sheraz
– Osleys Iglesias
Next Bud Target: Light Heavyweight Kings
If Crawford can beat Canelo, it means he can do more by moving up to 175 to undertake Dmitry Bivol for his three lightweight heavyweight titles, WBC champion David Benavidez, or Artur Beterbiev. That would be one way for Crawford to confirm his legacy. Those fighters would be a great test for Crawford.
