
Sparks of small business Kenya’s reaction by banning the foreign people of Tanzania
Tanzania has prevented foreign nationals from the owners and operating small businesses mainly, creating anxiety and reaction to neighboring Kenya.
New instructions restrict them from 15 areas including mobile money transfer, tour guiding, small-mine, agricultural crop buying, beauty salons, kurio shops and radio and TV operations.
Trade Minister Selemani Jaffo explained that foreign people have joined the informal sector and the growing area filled by the Tanzanians.
The decision has been welcomed locally in concern that foreign people, including Chinese citizens, are encroaching on small business.
Last year, the merchant of the Dar S Salaam Kariaku Shopping District traveled from Chinese traders to protest aggressive taxes and unjust competition.
“We welcome this decision because it protects the livelihood of the Tanzian traders,” Savarin Mushi, head of the Kariaku Traders Association, told the Citizen newspaper.
Violators suffer a fine, six months imprisonment and loss of visas and work permits.
Jafo added that the ban, which was released on Monday, hoped that foreign people will be encouraged to invest in a large number of businesses.

Kenya’s veteran hoteliest Mohammad Harshi also questioned Tanzania’s decision to limit the business of foreign people.
“Sometimes, it is important to focus on the big picture … protection will never help a country to enrich,” he said on X.
Many other Kenya have expressed concern over social media by describing Tanzania’s strategic movement as a major challenge of regional integration.
