Federal agents announced a man in California on charges of allegations that he had sent dozens of payments to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
Mark Lorenzo Villanueva, 28, is accused of trying to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization, a felony crime that carries a 20 -year legal legal punishment behind bars.
Villanueva, Resident in Long Beach, It is a permanent resident in the Philippines, according to the US Public Prosecutor’s Office for the Central Region in California.
“It is claimed that Villanueva has supported financially a son of a terrorist group targeting the United States and our interests around the world,” Patrick Grande, assistant assistant director of the FBI, said in a statement.
“Thanks to the pre -emptive efforts made by the Joint Terrorism Squad, the FBI and our partners, Mr. Villanueva, have been safely arrested and prevented more support and the spread of ISIS ideology.”
According to a written statement, Villanueva used social media to speak with two people whose identity was identified as ISIS fighters.
During their talks, Villanueva discussed his desire to support ISIS and offered to send money to the terrorist group fighters to support their activities.
It is claimed that Villanueva told one of the autonomous ISIS fighters that he wanted to fight for ISIS himself.
He said at some point: “It is an honor for me to fight and die for our faith. It is the best way to go to heaven.”
He also said: “One day soon, I will join.”
Villanueva told the other fighter that he had a bomb and knives.
The FBI regained what appeared to be a Villanueva bedroom when he was arrested on Friday morning.
In February, Villanueva offered to send money to an ISIS fighter and asked whether the money “will cover your equipment and weapons.” He also discussed sending money through a broker.
According to Western Union records, it is claimed that Villanueva sent 12 paid $ 1615 over five months to two mediators who reached money abroad.
“Supporting a terrorist group, both at home or abroad, is a serious threat to our national security,” said the United States ’lawyer in the Central City County Bill Essles. “We will strongly search for anyone who provides support or comfort for our enemies.”
