Miami – A federal judge issued an order to temporarily stop construction in Migration center In Florida Evergels.

The judge said that adding lighting, paving, fence, filling and the other building on the site must stop while hearing a challenge to the facility brought by environmental groups. However, immigration detention and other operations in the facility will continue with the advance of the legal process forward.

In a lawsuit, says the friends of Everglades, the Center for Biological Diversity, the Earthjustice and the Miccosukee tribe that the accelerated construction of the elbow – is called “Alcatraz” by state officials – without public inputs or indicating an environmental impact that violates federal law.

The elbow, which contains tents and cells loving up to 5,000 immigration detainees, is located at an abandoned airport, often located inside the wetlands in the Big Cypress National Reserve.

Florida lawyers and Trump administration said that the facility was built and operated by the state, the federal law does not apply. American boycott judge, Cathlein Williams, was not convinced of this argument.

Two days after the listening sessions, I was frustrated when I learned that the construction was still on the site, and the lawyers refused for Florida to request his suspension. Judge Williams has released a temporary restriction order that stops construction activities there for the next 14 days. Immigration detention and other operations are not affected by this.

Environmental groups submitted a certificate in the court that the additional construction of the facility will harm the quality of water in Everglids and contribute to the damage of the endangered Florida.

Randy Kawsz, the environment scientist for the wildlife that helped write a tiger recovery plan in the state, said due to the bright lights, increased traffic and human presence on the site, and Florida will be paid from at least 2000 acres of their habitats.

There is only an estimated 120 to 230 of the remaining leopards in Florida. Lawyers in the state said that habitat was a small part of more than 3.1 million acres with the number of leopards in Florida. However, Kotz said it would contribute to the damage of the tiger population.

Christopher McAfaoui, the environment scientist in wetlands, who helped write a plan to restore Evergalids, has raised concerns with the court about 20 acres of paving the new asphalt on the site and its impact on water quality in the fragile ecosystem. He said Evergalids has a very low nutrient level. The surface flow that contains nutrients and pollutants will be for them "Severe effect" On the nearby wetlands, he said.

Groups that accelerate construction without holding listening sessions, taking a general comment or studying an environmental impact, and violated the Trump and administration of the National Environmental Policy Law (NEPA).

The lawyer of the Ministry of Justice, Marisa Perbato, told the judge, "NEPA does not apply here because the federal detention facility is controlled by Florida." Florida spends an estimated $ 450 million to cover the cost of construction and site operations, but it is expected to seek to pay from the Trump administration.

During the listening sessions, Judge Williams was martyred by comments by Trump administration officials who called it an attachment to enforce immigration and customs (ICE) and asked again and again, "Who runs the show?" I suggested that the changing responsibilities to build and operate the detention center are a deliberate effort by federal officials to avoid adhering to the NEPA.

After the judge’s order, Eve samples said with Everglades friends, "We are pleased that the judge saw the urgent need for a stoppage in additional construction, and we look forward to progressing our final goal of protecting the unique ecosystem and forced to further damage caused by this collective detention facility."

James Uthamier, the spokesman for the Public Prosecutor in Florida, said "Judge Williams commanded wrong, and we will fight him."

The temporary restrictions orders are usually not subject to stabbing. He will remain in his place while the judge hears the request of environmental groups to issue a preliminary judicial order to stop the operations on the site. The next session is Tuesday.
